</h1> <p>US-Amerikaner wird Assistant Head Coach im GFL-Team und übernimmt führende Rolle in der Unicorns Academy</p> <p><em>von Julia Brenner (Foto Manfred Löffler)</em></p> <p>Mit Beginn der Offseason freuen sich die Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns über Verstärkung für ihren Trainerstab: Gabriel Landa nimmt ab sofort seine Arbeit innerhalb der Unicorns Academy sowie als Assistant Head Coach im GFL-Team auf. Der US-Amerikaner soll als hauptamtlicher Trainer die bestehenden Strukturen gezielt ergänzen und die Weiterentwicklung der gesamten Organisation vorantreiben.</p> <p>„Wir sind sehr froh darüber, mit Gabriel den passenden Mann für das vielseitige Aufgabenfeld gefunden zu haben“, so Siegfried Gehrke. „Gabriel weiß unseren Fokus auf die Ausbildung eigener Talente sehr zu schätzen und ist ein wichtiger Baustein, um unseren Weg konsequent weiterzugehen“, betont der Sportdirektor der Unicorns mit Blick auf die Zukunft. In dieser sieht es Gabriel Landa als Vision „ein Schwäbisch Haller Produkt auf das Spielfeld zu bringen.“ Der 31-Jährige bestätigt: „Das starke Augenmerk auf die Jugend und die Weiterentwicklung macht die Unicorns einzigartig und hat mich beeindruckt.“</p> <p>In einer führenden Rolle innerhalb der Unicorns Academy wird er diese Entwicklung künftig entscheidend mitprägen. Die Gestaltung der Trainingspläne sowie der einzelnen Einheiten für die auf Football spezialisierten Schülerinnen am Evangelischen Schulzentrum Michelbach (ESZM) werden ebenso zu seinen Aufgaben gehören wie die individuelle Betreuung der Talente.</p> <p>Als Assistant Head Coach im GFL-Team wird er den Nachwuchs darüber hinaus am entscheidenden Übergang ihrer Jugend- zur Aktivenkarriere begleiten und gemeinsam mit Head Coach Felix Brenner und Defensive Coordinator Mike Freckmann dafür Sorge tragen, die nächsten Schritte mit der jungen Mannschaft zu gehen. Bereits im Sommer hatte Landa bei den Unicorns hospitiert und den Trainingsbetrieb eng mitbegleitet. „Gabriel und die Unicorns passen gut zusammen. Er ist ein enorm wichtiges Puzzleteil für uns als Team und für die gesamte Organisation“, bestätigt Head Coach Felix Brenner, der Landa außerdem als Receiver-Coach in der Offense einsetzen wird.</p> <p>Unicorn Town – schon 2021 hatte Gabriel Landa einen ersten Berührungspunkt mit den Einhörnern. Die Dokumentation von Nick Alfieri sorgte dafür, dass Gabriel Landa ein Augenmerk auf den europäischen Football warf und dessen Potenzial für sich entdeckte. Sein erstes Coaching-Engagement führte ihn vor drei Jahren nach Polen. Nach zwei Jahren als Offensive Coordinator der Wroclaw Panthers führte sein Weg dieses Jahr nach Potsdam, wo er die Arbeit als OC fortsetzte. Die Royals und Landa trennten sich nach einigen Monaten der Zusammenarbeit einvernehmlich.</p> <p>Zuvor hatte Gabriel Landa seine Ausbildung als Footballtrainer an zwei renommierten Division-1-Colleges genossen hat: In vier Jahren an der Stanford University war der gebürtige Kalifornier Teil des Staffs, welcher den prestigeträchtigen Rose Bowl gewann. Zwei weitere Jahre verbrachte er an der Arizona State University, wo er mit allen Positionsgruppen der Offense sowie als Analyst arbeitete. Seine Zukunft sieht der 31-Jährige, der kürzlich in Madrid erfolgreich seine Ausbildung als Englischlehrer abschloss, in Europa. „Ich möchte hier in Schwäbisch Hall meine Heimat finden“, so Landa.</p>
