</h1> <p>Hildesheim. Die Hildesheim Invaders setzen ein echtes Ausrufezeichen auf dem Transfermarkt und verpflichten mit Kyle Kitchens einen der renommiertesten Defensivspieler im europäischen American Football. Der US-Amerikaner gilt seit Jahren als dominanter Pass Rusher und zählt ligaübergreifend zu den produktivsten Defensive Ends seiner Generation.<br />Die Invaders und Kitchens, da war doch was? Genau. Eigentlich hätte Kyle Kitchens schon mindestens eine ganze Saison im Invaders-Trikot bestritten, doch diese fiel 2020 wegen der Corona-Pandemie ins Wasser. Und so betrat er nie das Feld, konnte während des Jahrs aber bereits Hildesheim und die Menschen kennenlernen. Sicherlich ein Vorteil bei den Gesprächen des viel umworbenen Ausnahmespielers.<br />Der 1,88 Meter große und rund 115 Kilogramm schwere Kitchens stammt aus Decatur (Georgia, USA) und machte bereits früh mit außergewöhnlichen Leistungen auf sich aufmerksam. Nach einer erfolgreichen High-School-Karriere führte ihn sein Weg an das Catawba College (NCAA Division II), wo er sich als absoluter Leistungsträger etablierte. Mit insgesamt 38,5 Sacks stellte er dort mehrere College-Rekorde auf und wurde mehrfach zum All-American sowie zum Defensive Player of the Year seiner Conference gewählt.<br />Nach dem College wagte Kitchens den Schritt nach Europa – und hinterließ sofort Eindruck. In der German Football League sorgte er ebenso für Furore wie später in der European League of Football. Spätestens mit seiner Zeit bei Leipzig Kings und Berlin Thunder stieg Kitchens zum Aushängeschild der Defensive auf: mehrfacher Sack-Leader, wiederholt zum Defensive Player of the Year gewählt und über Jahre hinweg eine Konstante auf All-Star-Niveau. Seine Mischung aus Explosivität, Technik und Spielintelligenz macht ihn zu einem Spieler, der gegnerische Offensiven dauerhaft unter Druck setzt.<br />„Kyle ist ein Spieler, der Spiele verändern kann“, sagt Head Coach Marcus Herford. „Er bringt nicht nur außergewöhnliche athletische Fähigkeiten mit, sondern auch eine enorme Erfahrung aus unterschiedlichen Ligen auf höchstem europäischen Niveau. Genau solche Charaktere suchen wir für die Invaders.“<br />Mit Kitchens gewinnen die Invaders nicht nur sportliche Qualität, sondern auch Leadership. Der Defensive End gilt als lautstarker Kommunikator auf dem Feld, der Mitspieler besser macht und junge Spieler anleitet.
