</h1> <p>Unicorns freuen sich im April auf einen Preseason Doubleheader im Optima Sportpark / Deutscher National-Quarterback kommt nach Schwäbisch Hall</p> <p>Kaum sind die geruhsamen Weihnachtstage vorüber, können die Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns ein echtes Ausrufezeichen vermelden: Mit den Calgary Gators gastiert am 11. April 2026 der amtierende kanadische Meister im Optima Sportpark. Nur eine Woche später reisen die Düsseldorf Panther in den Süden (18.04.2026). Doch nicht nur der Zeitplan, sondern auch die Mannschaft für die Saison 2026 nimmt Form an: Während drei Team Captains und ein Großteil des jungen 2025er Teams an Bord bleiben, steht mit Lars Heidrich ein neuer Quarterback für 2026 in den Startlöchern.</p> <p>Damit wird in der kommenden Saison der Spielmacher der deutschen Nationalmannschaft das Unicorns-Trikot tragen. Zuletzt war der 24-Jährige Backup von Reilly Hennessey beim ELF-Champion Stuttgart Surge und konnte dort sein Potenzial immer wieder zum Vorschein bringen. Das erkannte auch der deutsche Cheftrainer Christian Rothe, der Heidrich für die deutsche Nationalmannschaft nominierte. Zuvor hatte sich der 1,93 Meter große Quarterback bei seinen Stationen Kaiserslautern (2014-15, 2020-22), Saarbrücken (2015-19) und Frankfurt (2023-24) stetig weiterentwickelt. „Nach zwei Workouts mit dem Team hat es sich direkt richtig angefühlt. Alles hat gepasst, vom Team bis hin zum Coaching Staff. Das hat mir die Entscheidung sehr einfach gemacht“, so Lars Heidrich, dem sich Head Coach Felix Brenner nur anschließen kann: „Lars gibt uns die Chance, mit ihm etwas Großes auf die Beine zu stellen und anders herum geben wir ihm die Möglichkeit, als deutscher QB auf dem Feld zu stehen. Das passt einfach.“ Um Heidrich herum hat sich bereits ein Großteil der Mannschaft formiert, wobei die Erfolgsträger des jungen Teams beisammen bleiben. Angeführt wird es auch weiterhin von den Teamkapitänen Simon Baumgartner, Magnus Bumiller und US-Amerikaner Monteze Latimore.</p> <p>Zum ersten Prüfstein für die Unicorns in der Saison 2026 machen am 11. April die Calgary Gators aus der semiprofessionellen CMFL (Canadion Major Football League) auf ihrer Deutschland-Reise Halt in der Kocherstadt. Die Gators krönten sich zuletzt zweimal in Folge zum kanadischen Meister und stellten bei Kanadas Gastspiel gegen Deutschland im November nicht wenige der kanadischen Nationalspieler. „Unser Team und die Liga haben viele Spieler nach Europa entsendet, um hier Football zu spielen. Nun sind wir sehr gespannt, wie wir uns im Duell mit einem GFL-Team schlagen werden. Dass wir bei den Unicorns gastieren, ist eine tolle Chance für uns als Club und für alle Spieler, ihr Talent zu zeigen“, so Calgarys Vorstandsmitglied Kurt Howland.</p> <p>Eine Woche später erwarten die Schwäbisch Hall Unicorns mit den Düsseldorf Panthern den zweiten Testspielgegner im Optima Sportpark. Die Mannschaft aus der GFL Nord reist wie 2025 drei Wochen vor dem GFL-Saisonstart zur Generalprobe nach Schwäbisch Hall. „Wir sind sehr happy, dass wir mit Calgary und Düsseldorf zwei hochkarätige Gegner zum Testen gewinnen konnten und uns und den Fans damit im Optima Sportpark internationales Flair und ein starkes Team aus dem Norden bieten können“, so Cheftrainer Felix Brenner voller Vorfreude.</p> <p><strong>Tickets: </strong>Für alle Inhaber der Dauerkarte PLUS sind die beiden Testspiele inklusive, alle anderen Dauerkarten-Besitzer gibt es vorab die Möglichkeit, ihre Tickets auch für die Preseason-Partien freischalten zu lassen.
