</h1> <p>Es ist wie in jeder Sportart – wenn im September der letzte Spielzug gespielt wurde, ist man erstmal froh, dass Pause ist. 2 Wochen später lechzt man nach den „New Beginnings“. </p> <p>229 Tage werden es dann gewesen sein, als die Spiders im Viertelfinale gegen die Dresden Monarchs verloren haben. Die Partie, ein Spiegelbild einer Saison, gut mitgespielt, Gameplan in vielen Bereichen hervorragend umgesetzt, aber die entscheidenden Punkte nicht gemacht, um dem Gegner dann wirklich gefährlich zu werden. Das ist jedoch nur ein kleiner Fleck auf der Weste, nach purem Abstiegs-und Überlebenskampf in der Saison 2023 spielte man von Beginn oben mit & hatte bis zum Schluss auch die Chance auf Heimrecht im Viertelfinale. </p> <p>Das ist jedoch alles Geschichte – am Samstag sind die Karten neu gemischt, auch wenn das Team nur punktuell verändert wurde, bringt eine neue Saison auch viele Unbekannte ins Spiel. Das gilt am Ende auch für Straubing selbst – bis auf Mike Wittmann wurde die komplette Coaching Staff ausgetauscht, neuer Chef ist Cody Kent, der den sportlichen Bereich der Spiders von Anfang an auf ein neues Level hob: „Cody brachte Struktur, System ins sportliche Geschäft, einer der vielen Gründe, warum wir von ihm überzeugt waren. Jeder Schritt, den er geht, ist durchdacht, hat einen Plan dahinter und macht unser Footballprogramm deutlich besser!“, so (Neu-) Präsident Martin Gierl.</p> <p>Das „Vorschusslorbeeren“ in einem Ergebnissport nichts zählen, wenn der Erfolg nicht kommt, dem ist sich der neue Coach bewusst – und er sieht seine Mannschaft vorbereitet: „Wir sind überzeugt davon, dass wir die Mannschaft vorbereitet haben in allen Phasen des Spiels, ich bin vor allem mit den Special Teams sehr zufrieden, die Jungs sind „locked-in“, gerade bei den „unbeliebten“ Dingen wie Kick-Off, Kick Return, wenn die Dinge so funktionieren, wie wir uns das aufzeichnen, spricht es eine deutliche Sprache!“, so Kent. </p> <p>Wie auch Straubing, haben die ifm Razorbacks kein „bekanntes“ Spiel in der Vorbereitung absolviert, auch immer ein „Spannungsfaktor“, wie Kent sagt: „Week 1 ist immer ein Schachspiel, du weißt nicht, welche Tricks der gegnerische Coach auf Lager hat und was die Mannschaft wirklich aufs Feld bringt. Da hilft dir jede Analyse auf Papier nichts. Unser Job ist es, dass wir auf uns schauen, unseren Plan durchziehen, den wir uns vorbereitet haben und entsprechend reagieren können, wenn es nötig ist!“</p> <p>Vor allem die Defensive erwartet Kent sehr stark – für Fans und Gegner gleichermaßen eine große Unbekannte. Im Vorjahr bärenstark, wurde viel spekuliert, was nach dem Abgang von Max Macek passiert. Coach Michael Vite ließ alle verstummen, arbeitete akribisch und hart mit seinem Unit und man darf sich auf eine Defense freuen, die keine Gefangenen macht, athletisch unterwegs ist und überall über das Feld „fliegen“ wird, um es den Wildschweinen so schwer wie möglich zu machen.</p> <p>Das Vertrauen an die eigenen Stärke wächst in der Offensive, Quarterback Luis Wittmann führte das Team stark durch das Frühjahr, jedes Training bringt den Unit ins Rollen – jetzt darf und soll es endlich losgehen.</p> <p>Der Gegner kommt wie gewohnt mit starker Import-Power aus den Toren, nahezu die halbe Mannschaft kommt aus den USA & Europa, dazu viel Import-Power auch auf den Coaching Positionen, man darf einen Gegner erwarten, der nach zwei Jahren am Boden und dem eigentlich sportlichen Abstieg in 2023, Blut geleckt hat mit dem Erreichen des Viertelfinales im Vorjahr, entsprechend erwartet Coach Kent einen Fight: „Wir erwarten einen Gegner, der genau das Erreichen will, was im Vorjahr gelang – Play-Offs, Heimrecht oder ggf. sogar einen weiteren Schritt nach vorn. Wir sind bereit dafür, haben uns hervorragend vorbereitet und sind bereit für dieses Duell!“</p> <p>Die Zeit ohne Football ist endlich vorbei – am 10.05. um 17 Uhr hat das Rätselraten ein Ende, dort
